Hi, I’m Steph!

After over a decade teaching sales strategy at Google, I’ve traded in pitch decks for playing tiles and now I teach Mahjong.

​

I’ve always loved games, but my obsession with Mahjong began when I was looking for a fun, meaningful way to gather friends and neighbors for much-needed girls’ nights. I’m a mom of three young kids, so I needed a recharge. Inspired by my mother-in-law, who has been playing Mahjong for over 50 years with the same close-knit group of friends and even takes Mahjong trips with them, I quickly fell in love with the game. It offered everything: connection, strategy, beauty, and just the right amount of competition.

I started teaching my friends so I would have people to play with and soon realized I was using many of the same skills I used in the corporate world, breaking down complex ideas, creating clear visuals, and making learning fun and approachable. That is how The Modern Mahj was born.

 

Through lessons and events, my goal is to help you connect with the game, with your community, and with yourself. Whether you are brand new or just a little rusty, I hope you leave with a new appreciation for Mahjong, its strategy, its history, and all its colorful, clacky charm.
